From Another View: A Juried Art Exhibition
Visual artists take on literature through painting, texture, and form.
A Show Where Art Speaks from Another Point of View.
Friday, December 12, 2025 | 5:00-8:00 PM
ArtsUp SC Gallery, 146 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306
ArtsUp SC invites you to participate in our Inaugural Juried Art Show, From Another View — a celebration of creativity inspired by storytelling with ArtsUp SC
This year’s theme draws from the enduring wisdom of Atticus Finch in acclaimed Southern author, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird:
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Artists are invited to interpret this quote from another angle, transforming its message of empathy, understanding, and perspective into visual form. Through paint, texture, sculpture, and movement, this exhibition explores how art allows us to step into one another’s experiences and see the world anew. Submitted works will be featured in a public showcase with the opportunity to win awards. We are also proud to partner with the Hope Center for Children. Guests are encouraged to bring art supplies to support the young people they serve. To learn more about Hope Center for Children, visit their website here.

We are honored to welcome Courtney Cotton as the juror for the inaugural From Another View exhibition.
Courtney Cotton is a professional artist with more than 28 years of experience across fine arts, architecture, design, and the nonprofit sector. A mentor, collaborator, and creative leader, she brings a rare blend of business acumen, artistic vision, and hands-on problem-solving to every project she undertakes. Her background includes extensive work in art direction, project management, and stakeholder engagement — all guided by clarity of purpose and a commitment to meaningful impact.
Courtney lives and works in Landrum, South Carolina and Boulder, Colorado, originally hailing from Charlotte by way of Pennsylvania. She holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina with a concentration in interior design and pursued additional studies at the Rhode Island School of Design and Queens College.
Her current project, The Circle Conversation, is an ambitious sculptural work merging art, technology, and science to share lived experiences and offer support to others. Her artistic interests center on public art, the NeuroArts Blueprint, and the role creativity plays in elevating human well-being. She is deeply engaged with themes of mental health, resilience, vulnerability, oneness, perception, transformation, and the tension between reacting and responding.
Courtney’s work has received numerous honors, including an invitational residency at Rule Gallery in Marfa, Texas; multiple second-place awards in Miami and Steamboat Springs; and a Technical Brilliance Award from The Art Students League of Denver. Her painting La Danza was published in La Danza Cosmica by Martin Huerta (Santiago de Chile).
She is represented by Candita Clayton Gallery (Pawtucket, RI), Red Rocks Fine Art (Denver, CO), SeeSaw Gallery (Englewood, CO), and additional representation in New London, NH. Before stepping fully into her art career, Courtney worked in architecture and design. Her previous experience she now hopes to bring into future public art commissions.
Her artistic path reflects a fearless willingness to experiment. As she puts it: “My adventurousness is evident in the diverse range of styles that make up my body of work.”
